On moving to France in 2006, we bought a building that allowed us to create some gîtes to which we welcomed people looking to find a place and space within which to relax, unwind, declutter and generally take time out from the constant demands of the busy workplace. Initially, guests came uniquely on holiday. Nowadays, we still receive people searching to find peace from relaxation and now we also host retreats for those seeking a little guidance on how to find their personal pathway(s) to stillness.
If you're interested in either option, please contact us for more details.
What you'll find
Ideally located in a rural village 25 km south of Carcassonne, we have two gîtes at Razès – Soujeole and Corbières. Each gîte is ideally suited for singles or couples sharing with parking, fully equipped kitchen, dining and lounge areas, double bedroom and bath or shower room.
There are several secluded gardens offering areas of sun and shelter, perfect for your outdoor dining or relaxation; all conducive to quietly snoozing away your cares, keeping you tucked safely away from the outside world. For those who enjoy walking, the gîtes are right on the doorstep of the beautifully rolling Razès countryside; perfect for those who want to discover a sense of peace and calm while gently absorbing the sights and sounds of nature all around. Jo also offers guided walks.
Each gîte has been carefully fashioned from the original wine-making vignoble and barns and thus has unique ambiance and rustic character. Both gîtes have been modernised for comfort during your stay, whatever the duration or the time of year.
Each gîte has a double bedroom, bath or shower room, well equipped kitchen, dining and lounge area with TV, music player, full linen, towels and heating.
A collection of books and music is kept within each gîte as well as an up-to-date supply of local information on events taking place in and around the Aude département. A large and continually expanding selection of films, and local books on Cathar castles are also available upon request. Our extensive range of detailed road and walking maps are kept in the grange.
All guests of Razès Gîtes have full use of the secluded gardens and communal grange at their disposal for relaxation or outdoor dining.
Airy and bright, Corbières is for those who enjoy open design and all-day sun - espcially in summer! The double bedroom is up on the mezzanine while downstairs, the living area looks over the monster wisteria and out into the gardens below. Corbières has an open plan kitchen-dining-lounge area and a bathroom with both bath and shower. Bets suited for a single person or couple.
Rustic in outlook, Soujeole facilities include an open plan kitchen-dining area, double bedroom, single annex bedroom, and ensuite shower room. Soujeole best suits a couple or two people happy to share and is particularly appealing perhaps to those who don't like stairs, as all rooms in Soujeole are positioned on the same level. Of the two gîtes, Soujeole offers most respite from the hottest Summer sun and has a wood burner for heating during the inclement months.
Meditation and Yoga Room
We can offer our customers use of a quiet meditation room for either private or group meditation as you may prefer. For those who wish to discover new ways of meditating and finding stillness, we're happy to share some of the pathways we have discovered for ourselves.
If you wish to practice yoga, facilities are available and for those who may want to undertake a beginner's course to yoga (Iyengar and Hatha methods), Jo is happy to provide instruction.
The grange is a beautiful place in which to stop and stare at the great outdoors from the snug comfort of the warm indoors. During the warmner months, many of the meditation, discussion and yoga sessions take place upstairs in the grange. Downstairs, there is a spacious seating area and more cooking facilities for convenient dining in the gardens. A washing machine is also available in the grange. There are several bikes offered for use by those who wish to challenge the rolling hills or merely foray into neighbouring towns, the local lake or even the nearest wine château. The medieval town of Mirepoix is a flat’ish 16 kms away.
Happy to help
We are based in the adjoining property. Should you wish to explore the local area, we can certainly give recommendations and make reservations on your behalf. If you've already made your own plans or simply don't want to make any, then you'll be left tranquil in your own peace and space.
